The very last day of the exchange trip started off by having an Estonian language exam. We were split up into two groups according to whether or not you had beginners or advanced level in Estonian. Then we all had one hour to go out on the street and ask strangers some different questions, e.g. “Mis kell on?” = “What time is it?”. While doing so we also had to record it so that in the end we would all meet up again and watch the videos. Some of them turned out quite funny!
As we all (thankfully) passed our exams, it was now time for us to be knighted as a true “rahvuskaaslased”, which of course was done with the Estonian flag.
Afterwards we had lunch at Kohvik Kohalik, which had become our hang-out while being in Tallinn. We all wanted to enjoy our last day to the fullest, and personally, I would say we all got as close to each other than we have ever been on this day.
The rest of the day was spent in each other’s company out and about in Tallinn. Some of us went to the rooftop bar at the Radisson Hotel and to the Town Hall where we enjoyed the amazing view of Tallinn from above and indulged in some traditional Estonian beer.
Then it was time for our final dinner together. As we were walking away hand in hand from Kohvik Kohalik for the very last time, we could all feel just how close we had become during this amazing experience.
It was a very emotional time, as people one by one had to collect their bags and leave our lovely apartment for the very last time, to travel back to each one's respective home country.
But all of us know, that no matter how physically far away from each other we are, all of us will always be a part of our newly founded Estonian family! Just like one of the walls in the Old Town of Tallinn says: We will always remember the times we had, but also the times which we will surely have together in the future!
I think it is safe to say that each and every one of us had an incredible time in Estonia. During these 10 days we made close friendships from across the world. We learned about each other and our Estonian roots, which gave us a much deeper understanding of ourselves, as well as the Estonian culture. Nonetheless, we are incredibly grateful for this amazing experience with our fellow Estonians and it is truly something that has changed lives.
After ending this incredible trip we are already talking about a reunion - Laulupidu 2019??
Nägemiseni!
