Eighth Day - The Government's Day

Our project continued in Tallinn today. We took a couple of hours bus drive to the capital city. It was a nice opportunity to rest. We did some very official and fancy stuff in Tallinn! First we went to Kadriorg’s presidential palace, had a guided tour, and then got to discuss some politics with one of our president’s advisers, Urmo Kübar. By accident, we even got to meet Kersti Kaljulaid for a moment, as she was doing her work. Besides being productive, Estonians are also incredibly chill and casual - even the politicians. For all of us foreign Estonians it is unusual, yet so nice to see. It’s great that Estonians keep their state running without classifying of people due to their history, and are so friendly with each other. Even the politicians are normal people, not half-gods, like in many of our countries.

After the presidential palace we had lunch in our usual place, in one of Tallinn’s hipster cafes.

The Ministry of Education and Research was our next destination. There we heard about studying and scholarship options in Estonia – for both learning in Estonian and in English. As we started comparing which option is more beneficial, we also discussed how to apply for citizenship in Estonia, as people who have Estonian roots but have ended up in other random parts of the world. We even got some coffee, snacks and gift bags, the latter containing some cool little Estonian things.

We got to chill in the town, had dinner as usual - the “cool modern Estonian” kind of food. We’re having an Estonian movie night, with different movies running in parallel in our three apartments.
